Making Adjustments is a tool created by the MDE to assist Pre-K staff in meeting the unique needs of individual children in their classrooms. This full-day training will give participants a variety of strategies to use, as well as a chance to practice these strategies. This training is available to teachers and assistants currently teaching in a Pre-K general education or special education classroom or administrators of Pre-K classrooms.
Participants are asked to please bring a children's book that can be used to make some permanent "making adjustments" changes to during the class.

This full-day training will consist of an overview of the CLASS assessment tool, learning about the dimensions of CLASS, and best practices for favorable assessment outcomes. This session is available to all early childhood administrators, principals, district leaders, and directors of Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. SEMIs and contact hours will be offered at no cost and CEUs will be available for purchase. More

Participants will explore and model the components of the Mississippi Beginnings curriculum that includes: Read Alouds, Small Group, Literacy, Math, LFOAI (Let’s Find Out About It), SWPL (Songs, Word Play, and Letters), and Learning Centers. Trainers will model essential components for participants and discuss implementation of the curriculum in their classrooms. This training will also consist of strategies to differentiate instruction.

Session 2: This half-day training is one of two required components for registration. Participants will receive valuable information about setting up their pre-K classroom for success including classroom arrangement, organizing materials and resources for learning centers, effective classroom management, and establishing a safe environment that is free from clutter and optimizes student learning.
Participants who successfully complete a full day of training are eligible to receive CEUs for a small fee. OSLs and SEMIs are available at no cost.

This self-paced on-line boot camp will be conducted in two-parts. Part one includes a two-week self-pace online course. Part two consist of two online Canvas courses (one in the fall of 2024 and one in the spring of 2025). Completion of both parts of the Self-Paced Online Prekindergarten Boot Camp will allow teachers and assistant teachers, general education and special education, lacking an emphasis in early childhood to acquire the equivalent of twelve hours of approved early childhood coursework to instruct in PreK classrooms. Completion of part one of this training program includes all online modules, including all assessments, and submission of assignments through the Learning Management System (LMS). Part two consists of two online courses through Canvas.
